Welcome to 8th Grade!

The Class of 2019 is a TEAM who BELIEVES & ACHIEVES!

Teacher Biography:

Hi, my name is Mrs. Monica Armas and I am ecstatic that this is my 11th year at SFR. I love SFR because we are a family! I had the honor of attending SFR as a young girl and now my boys are blessed with the same privilege. My husband and I have been married for 14 years and our two sons are healthy and happy. Our family just adopted a new baby girl Boxer named Harley. She is a great addition to our family. I am so blessed to work with the best team and I am super excited about the year ahead.

I possess a teaching credential, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child & Adolescent Studies Degree, and a Master of Arts Degree in Education. I also have over sixteen years of classroom experience teaching in an educational setting that ranges from the elementary level through high school. I have strong traditional Catholic values, a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills, and my goal is to provide all students with an exceptional education.

My greatest strengths include inspiring and motivating students, teachers, and parents in a positive manner.  I strive to engage student’s minds by incorporating a variety of hands-on material, memorable and enjoyable activities, and cooperative learning projects.  Additionally, I openly communicate with parents on a regular basis to reinforce education and communication in the home so together we can work as partners to promote success in the educational process. Providing differential instruction is important and our faculty and staff work diligently to make sure all of the needs of our students are consistently met. Creating a safe, enriching, and critical thinking environment for my scholars is important to me. Providing a kind and loving learning environment in which students grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially is also very important to me. I look forward to what the Lord has in store for us this year and I am confident that this year will be the best year yet! Team 2019 believes and will achieve great things!

Dear Amazing SFR Families,

I would like to formally invite you to 8th grade.  An amazing year awaits and I know it will be full of awesome memories that we will create together. As scholars enter into the eighth grade, they are expected to arrive knowing how to think critically, write in complete sentences, and be at a minimum eighth grade reading level. This year will be a busy one. Being an excellent scholar who has a great work ethic and outstanding character is necessary. Our eighth graders are the leaders of the school and I expect them to act like role models. I look forward to what God has in store for us and I am very excited to be your 8th grade teacher. It is going to be the best year yet!

Parents, I am asking for your complete support; I am eager to work with you as a partner in your child’s education. I look forward to interacting with you to help your child have a successful school year.  All children learn in different ways; I will work with your child to discover the best method in which he/she learns. I will be making vocabulary, reading, and writing a priority utilizing Common Core State Standards. Reading every day is crucial for many reasons. Reading helps to discover new things, nurtures the imagination, and develops a good self-image and confidence. Being able to read is a critical skill in being able to function in today’s world. Students who read often and reach their reading goals will be rewarded and will be able to participate in the schoolwide AR champion’s event every quarter.

Students, I have high expectations for you. I want you to know that you are created in God’s image and God has given you many special talents to offer our classroom. I will work diligently to help you find out what your talents are. I expect you to be kind, love yourself, and try your best every day. I will do the same. You will be reading a novel called Island of Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell during the summer. Upon the first week of school, you will have your first AR test on this book and first book report due.  The date will be announced when we return to school. The first novel study for the school year will be on the novel, Jesse by Gary Soto. This will begin after Labor Day, the first week of September. Students must have the novel in class or points will be deducted from their ELA grade.
